Diabetes Assessment & Management

Podiatrists play such an important role in diabetes as we aid in the early detection of potential nerve and blood health damage. If they go undetected, those affected with diabetes may feel a lack of sensation at their feet, and lose the ability to efficiently heal cuts, wounds and bruises. These then lead onto potential foot ulcers and infections that in the worst case scenarios, lead to amputations.

Diabetes assessments are performed routinely to pick up any potential abnormalities in your nerve and blood health, and results are communicated back to your healthcare team. Depending on the level of risk, these assessments can be carried out every 3, 6 or 12 months.
Appropriate management advice for the feet and legs will be provided according to the individual's risk level.

If you are attending for a diabetes assessment and management, please bring:
• Blood glucose (sugar) level and HbA1c (3 month average from doctor) results;
• Medical history and medications list;
• Names of your healthcare team;
• Footwear that you primarily wear, for assessment.
